Rorschach. Wait.

Never compromise. Not even in the face of armageddon. That's always been the difference between us, Daniel.

...

Out of my way, people have to be told.

You know I can't let you do that.

Suddenly, you discover humanity? Convenient. If you'd cared from the start, none of this would have happened.

I can change almost anything, but I can't change human nature.

Of course, you must protect Veidt's new utopia. What's one more body amongst foundations?
Well, what are you waiting for? Do it.

Will you smile if I admit I was wrong?

About what?

Miracles: events with astronomical odds of occurring, like oxygen turning into gold.
I've longed to witness such an event, and yet I neglect that in human coupling millions upon millions of cells compete to create life, for generation after generation until, finally, your mother loves a man. Edward Blake, the Comedian, a man she has every reason to hate, and out of that contradiction, against unfathomable odds, it's you... only... you, that emerged.
To distill so specific a form from all that chaos is like turning air into gold: a miracle.
And so ... I was wrong.

It ends with you in tears.

Tears? So you don't come back to Earth.

At some point, yes. The streets are filled with death.

Jon, please. You have to stop this. Everyone will die.

And the universe will not even notice. In my opinion, the existence of life is a highly overrated phenomenon. Just look around you: Mars gets along perfectly well without so much as a microorganism. Here, it's a constantly changing topographical map, flowing and shifting around the pole in ripples 10000 years wide.
So tell me, how would all of this be greatly improved by an oil pipeline? By a shopping mall?

So, it's too much to ask for a miracle?

Miracles, by their definition, are meaningless. Only what can happen does happen.

I shall die here. Every inch of me shall perish. Every inch ... but one. An inch. It is small, and it is fragile and it is the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.
I hope that, whoever you are, you escape this place. I hope that the world turns and that things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you or kiss you ... The question I want to ask is about St Mary's and Three Waters. The question that's kept me up for the last 24 hours, the question I have to ask, is:
What if the worst, the most terrifying biological attack in this country's history was not the work of religious extremists?

Well, I don't understand. We know it was. They were caught. They confessed.

And they were executed. I know. And maybe that's really what happened. But I see this chain of events, these coincidences, and I have to ask: What if that isn't what happened? What if someone else unleashed that virus? What if someone else killed all those people? Would you really wanna know who it was?

Sure.

Even if it was someone working for this government? That's my question: If our own government was responsible for what happened at St Mary's and Three Waters, if our own government was responsible for the deaths of almost 100000 people, would you really wanna know?

There are, of course, those who do not want us to speak. Even now, orders are being shouted into telephones and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning and, for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is: there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there?
Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and surveillance coercing your conformity and solliciting submission.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Certainly there are those who are more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable. But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty you need only look into a mirror.
